Out of Range phone? without voicemail. Curious. Help.

Hi recently my boyfriend has gotten a new phone. Because his old phone for lack of better word sucked. He has yet to set up the voice mail. I was told to call him today. When I did the phone rang 4 times, and before the fourth ring could finish I got the message. '"the wireless customer you are calling is not available please try again later." Could this be a substitute for the voice mail that isn't yet set up?

If I'm not mistaken he is suppose to be out of town until Monday so it is possible that his phone is out of range. When this happens it usually goes directly to the voice mail.

A few hours after my first attempt I called back, and this time there was no rings, but I got the message "The person you are trying to reach is not accepting calls at this time."

I'm curious as to what this means.

Thank you.

The first message you received simply means that he isn't answering his phone and his voicemail is not set up.

The second message you got means his phone is either in the process of calling someone else or it is turned off. This message also can rarely mean he is outside of a calling area.

"The person you are attempting to reach is not accepting calls at this time" for AT&T means their phone is suspended. This could be because it is lost and he had it suspended or it is due to non-pay. Trust me though...I had a lot of customer service experience as well as having my own AT&T phone suspended a few years back.

This also can mean they have their phone turned off and do not have a voicemail account...yet.

But yes, it may be the account has been suspended also.

Sorry to contradict ya hun, but if someone has their phone off OR does not answer after x amount of rings and they do not have voicemail set up, you get the message "The subscriber you have called has a voicemail that is not active" or something very similar. The message I was talking about it reserved for people whose accounts are suspended.

Oh, well how old is your boyfriend?
Because that message usually means that he has At&t's lovely parent controls and you called him when he wasn't allowed to talk.
My friend is younger than me and sadly he has it. That message pops up if you text him.

Ok, so I am trying to call someone and I am getting the "wireless customer you are calling is not available" after more than 4 rings. It's saying this now for 2 days. I know another time it did this the person did not get the call and it does sound like something more either with the network or the phone is suspended for some reason. Now for the 2nd message where the customer is not accepting calls TRUST me that is when there is something called Smart Limits on the account that prevents either a certain number from calling or restricts certain calls at certain times. I did this to an ex so I do know that is exactly what that means. It was the only way to block his number b/c the phone company could not do it, they recommended that. However it does cost 4.99/mth. It even blocks it if you block your number (but still from the same number that was blocked). Hope this helps or helps anyone in the future.
