Does anyone else have allergies that are out of control right now? I live in the midwest and we had alot of rain this summer. I am wondering if we have mold spores in the air, which I am extremely allergic to. I have major congestion, sneezing, itchy throat and eyes,,and also major post nasal drip. I have been taking zyrtec and sudefed and nasal spray. This doesn't even seem to take the edge off? Anyone else experiencing this at all? Thanks for any replies.

I live in the midwest also and yes, mold spores are HIGH. I am currently feeling awful with allergies; it's been bad for a week for me. My ears are so plugged up that my hearing is distorted. I have burning eyes, headache, and runny nose. So, I know how you feel. I'm taking Chlortrimeton and Nasonex but have found no relief. I guess we just have to tough it out?? You might could try an air purifier, but I don't know if they really help or not? Get well soon.

Thanks for responding. I am finding NO relief at all. I am soooo congested yet I have runny nose and eyes too.sneezing all the time. Everything in my head feels swollen. I am miserable. I do have an airpurifier and have it going tonight. I hadn't had it on in awhile. I need a new filter for it. I think I will try some Benadryl tonight and pray it works. All the best to you. I hope you feel better too!

Have you tried doubling up on the zyrtec, one in the AM and one in the PM (assuming it's the 10mg)? My doc lets me and it has worked when I've had an attack. May take a couple of days to kick in.

I've been on Prevacid for my acid reflux too, since it has been acting up. This whole thing is now focused on my nose..I am sneezing all the time and extremely congested. I don't even want to go outside when all the allergens are blowing around. This morning I took a 12 hour Sudefed and last night Benadryl. I didn't know if you could take a 24 hour Zyrtec more than once a day.

I was not happy to find out that the nasal spray I have been taking had expired in April. They were samples from the doctor last fall and I didn't know they were so close to expiring. I talked to a pharmacist yesterday and he recommended switching nasal sprays at least 2 to 3 times a year. Your body gets used to them. I also am searching for my neti pot. Lost that in the move when I just moved to my new apartment.

Any advice is welcomed. Thanks all for responding!

Adding the stomach medicine Zantac (a histamine-2 blocker) to other antihistamines can sometimes improve their activity.

Prevacid is a PPI. It's a strong stomach treatment, but it doesn't have any effects on allergies. It has to be an H1 blocker such as Zantac.

Also, since learning I'm allergic to dust and mold as well as pollens, I went a little psycho cleaning my bedroom. It's now clutter and dust free for the first time in my life, ever. I wasn't aware of dust bugging me, but being in an almost completely allergen-free environment for 8 hours every night seems to make it easier for my body to handle being out in pollen in the daytime.

Thanks Jane! I am going to do that to my bedroom too. I don't have a whole lot in mine. I need to put all my pillows and mattress into some coverings that keep dust mites out. I have an air purifier but it neeRAB a new filter real bad. But I agree. Having a sleeping area that is free from allergens is a must!
