Our Son's Are In A Tent, In Their Toy Room, Watching A Movie, Does This Count...

...As Camping? They've been moaning at Hubby & I to take them camping, but we haven't had the time, and with twin 10 month old Babies it's not practical (that's my story).
Do you think this counts??

There are no bears around here. Plenty of worms though, they've been rolling in them all day.
Gee wizz. I am not paying for someone to take my Boys camping. Calm down a tad will you.
There is no way they can camp outside, it's blowing, and One of the 3yos, is on Oxygen.

You can tell them this is the easy way of camping. If you have a backyard and depending on where you live weather-wise, it would be a great idea to set up a backyard camping trip (that way mommy is close to home for all those essential needs for the youngins) you could even get a little bbq and/or fire pit do the whole speel smores, roasted hot dogs and all
 
maybe try to incorporate things that you would do on a camping trip... 1.) make s'mores
2.) sing around a camp fire (real or fake would be ok).
3.) pretend to cook the marshmallows over the "fire" with real sticks
4.) watch the great outdoors or brother bear for a movie.
5.) make some dirt( oreos, pudding and gummy worms)
6.) fishing game with tape on the end of a string(pole) they "catch" the fish by putting it in the "pond".

I think everyone here is forgetting that it's WINTER outside. there is no reason why you can't give them an experience and creative way to go camping.
 
we used to sleep in a tent in the backyard, that was always fun

I think it counts (depending on how old they are they might not)
 
lol no this is not camping. camping is outdoors, NO tv, bugs crawling in your sleeping bag and sitting outside around a campfire... not inside with the tv on..thats called "being in an enclosed space watching tv"
 
Hell yeah it counts - and my kinda camping too!!! what a brilliant idea - they'll love it - its not their bed so its different and fun!!

I would say no, not really... but it would certainly count as a fun change from the norm.

Is there anyone you know and trust who could take them camping for a weekend if you chipped in or even paid for it? (would be a nice break for you) Maybe one of you or your husband's siblings?

Or even if they can't take them out to actual camping, they could set up the tent in a relative's backyard. That would be fairly close... they'd be away from home outside in a tent.

edit: Well if one is only 3 years old that changes things, and would have been useful information to have from the start. For a 3 year old being in a tent inside is going to be close enough to camping for it to count for them. It wont fly a few years from now though. Also sweetfire, it's not winter everywhere.
 
If the kids are in a tent and they make smores and tell/listen to stories then it can count as camping at their age. =)

Well I think putting them in a tent in the toy room is fantastic. If they want the real deal, put them up in the barn, that will fix the problem, they will be over it quite quickly, lol. But the tent/toy room/tv night is a great substitute for the real thing, bonus is no bugs, comfy carpet and if the kids wont go to sleep they can be sent to bed, lol

Maybe one night Hubby could hike down the back paddock with them, set up camp and spend the night, then they would get an idea and would either love it or hate it and want to go home.

Can I come and play, your house sounds like a whole heap of FUN.
