My first son will be born soon and I have requested to cut the umbilical cord myself. My plan is to cut the cord by biting it with my teeth and then sucking on the end still attached to my wife. The purpose of this in my religion is so the blood of both my son and wife become part of me. This is an important tradition but the doctor is refusing it by sayin it is unsanitary but will not give any legitimate medical reasons of harm that could be done. Does anyone know of medical concerns related to biting an umbilical cord and sucking on it? If not, I will be finding a doctor that will allow me to complete this ritual at my sons birth.
Our doctor is being combative about my wifes umbilical cord but won't share health risks.?
