Alright.
My T3 have been with me for an entire 48 hours and what was to happen happened. It crashed on me :p

Now it's not his fault, it's mine. I heavely installed everything I found, played with all the possible information, imported movies, etc.etc. In short, I heavily tested my T3 to get all the functions and understand everything.
It seems I installed something I shouldve not installed. What is it? I have no clue..

My T3 shows the "palm powered" logo, then swith to a white screen with a black line in the middle then come back to the logo, and on and on.

I tried to click on the reset pin at the back but same thing happens.
I can't even power my T3 off. When I click on the power button for 3 secs, it asks me "erase all data".

Now, I don't care doing yes. No problem. I don't have anything important on it yet. But I'd like to know how exactly I could make sure that won't happen in the future. Is there a way to "safely" reboot a T3? Without erasing everything?

Anyway, I erased everything, and re synced my T3 with my Palm Desktop. It installed everything(and I discovered that everytime I sync, literraly every program was backuped which in a way is good) back...even the "bad" program! And it keeps doing that :\

So is there a way to go in my Palm Desktop and erase a couple of program so that they DONT get installed?

be careful what you install. Thats the biggest tip. install what you need and back up your info on your computer via hotsync so if it does crash which all palms do you won't lose anything. But be sure to look into your back up folder in the palm directory to make sure the problem app isn't reinstalled?

Is this your first PDA or Palm?

Moose, Paul you guys could really help this guy out.

-Cheers-

This is my first ever palm, or whatever similar gadget with that name :p

The closest thing I had to a Palm was a laptop :D

But I'm not worried at all. I bought my T3 purely by curiosity. I wanted to learn what a PDA was all about :)

I'm pretty sure it's gonna crash half a million times in the future! I probably will try to make my own apps(if it's legal or possible...) so it's all good.

Seeing it crash is no problem. Knowing why it crashed is what I want to know! And how to fix it!

By now, I fixed it but it was not fun. I went into my backup folder, deleted EVERYTHING(I had something close to 60 files in there) and freshly resynced my T3. All went well.

But I'm pretty sure someone using his T3 for work wouldnt love doing that! So is there a log or something that could say where the problem was?

Ben -

Do not install any app that does not specifically state that it is "OS5" or "T3" compatible. In the case of PalmOS 5.x, "not compatible" nearly always equals "crash".

The only way out of your current predicament is to go along with the "Erase all data" function.

Next, if you are willing to start over with a clean slate, find your user folder within the Palm desktop installation folder on your PC and move or rename it. For example, on my PC, I would look for C:\Program Files\Palm\CastigC and rename the folder from CastigC to Old_CastigC.

Now, do a hotsync, make certain that your T3 is working properly, and begin adding only compatible apps back into it.

If it's your first why do you have 60 files to install?

Are you trying to install RAW DATA and "assume" the T3 knows where to "put it?"

INSTALL NOTHING YET.

Sync the thing. Put in 2 names and phone numbers and a couple of "fake appointments." Sync again. No smoke and humming trees? Good. Put in 2 more. Still ok? Good.

Install one program at a time (it might help if you type out a list of the "60 files" in notepad/wordpad, and ATTACH them here as an attachment we can read (so as not to have a 3 foot long post).

I'm just curious how you've got 60 files and it's your first Palm; you must be installing something for which there is no "receiving application."

I PM'd you an answer on your other question, by the way.

Cheers BP! Keep the faith - the first Hotsync is often one of the best learning experiences you get "along the road of Palming." It'll be fine. When you have important stuff on there (you mentioned "business people") - I would STRONGLY RECOMMEND an SD Card backup program. There are several but I like jkware's CardBackup. TealPoint have a brand new one that's pretty killer but CardBackup has never let me down and I'll probably stick with that and TealBAckup as a "reserve," possibly just for "special files since it includes blowfish OR XOR encryption. Others include BackupBuddy VFS and BackupMan.

You wondered why you didn't get something saying "Crash due to this app."

CrashPro will do that - and log crashes right on your Palm.

We'd all be interested to know what the CORRUPTED app was so we can avoid it or at least "watch it." Was it Filez? Hope not - just took their latest version myself!

Oh oh. What's that humming sound?!

You actually synced with Outlook? And there's no smoke and screaming pets and blood on the windows? You must be quite an expert already!! Congrats.

Glad to hear your T3 is running again. There is a way to check if your T3 synced properly and what caused the errors, if any.

Right click on the HotSync trey item and select View Log. You will be able to see a log of all the things which were synchronized. The log indicates if any errors occurred.

When installing apps on a Palm, you should know the Palm program files have .PRC and any associated database files have .PDB as the file extension. These are the 2 main types of files to install. Make sure you read the installation instructions because some programs have several .PDB file to choose from and crashes may occur if the wrong one is chosen. Some programs only allow one file to be chosen.

One good freeware site is http://www.freewarepalm.com . You might take a look because they many great free programs.

It was not Filez, that I'm sure. I reinstalled the latest version and all went well 'till now so it wasnt Filez, rest assured! lol

I beleive it was SnapCalc 5.6 :\ I'm not sure but this was around the last thing I've installed before the crash. Right before SnapCalc, I installed a program(I think it was a demo) called CheckersPlus.

I'm not sure which one did the crash but I can try to re install them to see if you want! :D

Oh and as for the Outlook saga, I'm gonna tell you quite frankly, I hated it. I decided to stick to Palm Desktop. Maybe someone MASSIVELY using Outlook and ALL it's features, at work for example, might take advantage of it but personally, I think it's a pain in the [-0-] more then a plus.

Well unfortunately it's a Windows Based world and not a Palm Desktop world so Outlook is a real world option albeit not a necessarily a desirable option.
