Other than 3rd party support, Wii's success depends on an online system

I can live without, I would like them to bring in a demo section of the shop channel though like the PS3 so we can download demo's of some games before we buy.

yeah I'm in for free demos of stuff, hopefully they will pay attention to the successful parts of the competetors online system.

I hope it's not super wonky like the DS either

It's not gonna happen because it won't be kid-friendly that way. Mic support probably won't happen either, unless you can only talk to people on your friends list.

That's why you and a friend need to add one another, so that you don't communicate with strangers.

I *really really really* hope Nintendo recognizes the popularity, power, and importance of integrating online support with the Wii. If they are so worried about paring up 10 year olds with Johnny the Kidnapper, they need to focus on parental controls. Like I have suggested before, have parental controls on the hardware side (which I already believe they do), whereas a bit is either on or off depending on the setting of the controls. All the software has to do is check that bit before enabling or disabling certain features (such as chat). It can't be that hard, can it?

And game demos all the way. You know, I wouldn't be *terribly* surprised if they do this, especially considering the DS Download Station game demos and such. The only concern would be the amount of internal memory available on the Wii. I don't think 512MB (minus the space taken up by saves and other stuff) would be enough. I guess that's where the SD cards come into play...and hopefully they actually do something with the USB ports (or are they going to be this generation's version of the SNES expansion port?).

yeah that might be a problem because ps3 and xbox demos go directly to the hd...I'm not sure if you can transfer them to other cards either.

I really don't think it will happen. Wii is more like a party system where your friends come over and you play 4 player games together in the same room. Online gaming is really best on PCs IMO.

The big thing about Online is that it extends the life of games ten-fold.

Gears of war can be beaten in 4-7 hours on regular, but the online mode makes it worth the 60 bucks. Same deal with Halo 2, and just about any game thats out for the current game consoles.
