does anyone currently know anyone that has it? or do you have it?
my little sister is currently suffering from it, and doctors seem to be puzzled, so they just stuff her with pain killers...

any happy end stories about this painful disease for anyone?

I just happened to see your post.

My daugther had this at age 6. That was 30 years ago. She started with some knee pain and fever. We did not think the 2 were connected. I had a fabulous Family Doctor at the time and he quickly figured it out. I want to point out she had no cuts, no broken bones or injuries when this showed up.

Turns out it was in her left hip and she was having referred pain to the knee. She had 2 surgeries to clean out her hip socket and then IV Antibiotic to the hip. She was very ill and in the hospital 12 weeks. She was at Long Beach Memorial Children's hospital in Long Beach California and we got excellent care. She was in traction and then a body cast for the next 3 months.

I was told she may lose her leg or her leg would not grow. It was a terrible time for her and for me. We were also told it may recurr. My Doctor explained it as she probably had Staph infection in her blood from an old cut and then she bumped her hip and it weakened her bone and that is where the infection got into her bone.

Well the good news is she is 36 years old now. Never had another recurrance. They checked her for about 2 years afterwards quite often with labs like sed rate and she was not allowed to participate in gym, roller skating or skiing for the next few years. I think that was unnecessary but she never had it again. Just a large scar on her hip remains.

She never mentions it on any health exam now due to insurance issues...Pre existing condition from 30 years ago. It is always in the back of my mind that she could have it again. Her leg grew just fine and she never really had any problems.

I hope you get your situation figured out. I hope our story helps you somehow.

Did your Doctors do blood cultures? Did they say it is chronic or acute. Find out.

oleander,
they did biopsies and they believe it's chronic because this has been going on for about 4 years almost.... she is on the second month of taking oral antibiotics. her jaw bones are messed up too because of the wear and tear from the pain from the past years. she was misdiagnosed for three years so this grew into something bigger, :( but we have faith and believe that she will fall into the right hands.
