I was caught with $50.99 worth of merchandise and got a theft 2 (misdemeanor) citation. They just gave me a citation and let me go saying I was "cooperative". Now I'm wondering what kind of a sentence I am facing for this? And is there any way for me to avoid jail? I don't have the money for a lawyer and cannot get a court appointed one without getting my parents involved (I am 19)... so don't tell me to go get one. I'd like someone who's been there before to tell me what happened and what I'm likely facing.
