Optimal hdmi display settings for xbox 360 on sanyo 26" in LCD tv 720p?

My xbox 360s display is set at exPanded. Wanting the sharpest video possible this seems to work. But is it the best setting for my tv? My neaces where playing viva piñata today and it looked very bright in certain areas. Is this part of the game? Is it the tvs setting? Or is expanded not such a good idea quality wise on a 720p sanyo tv. Please tell me so I do not have to spend hours twittering. Thank you
