Ok I have to ask, to hear everyone's thoughts on this. It seems to me that over the past several years the things that are being done to horses to win in the show ring is getting out of control? Also that in some cases they are getting way away from the "breed standard" when judging. I think there is a two part problem here. One is that some owners will do almost anything to win, and not put the well being of the horse first. Two that the things being judged encourages this bad behavior by some. A couple examples are.. In the quarter horse world, Halter is a bit out there. People are even resorting to implants in their horses. Horses are being breed with little feet, huge bodies that are at times way overweight. We even have heard of people tying horses in stalls with feed and way limiting activity to keep them "hefty". It seems that the judging is not on the true conformation anymore but how "big" your horse is? The big licks in the walking horse world is another example, the huge shoes that cannot be good, and the soreing (I know it is supposed to be illegal.. but..) Horror stories of nails through the bottom of the hoof to make them pick their feet up higher ect.. any way I am not picking on one breed, just examples. ( I raise quarter horses) I think if the judges would quit judging and placing horses that are like this it would stop.. So I want to hear what you think, or have seen or anything..
