Anyone one have opinions on chiropractors?

I had back spasms about a month ago and was unable to stand up straight. I ended up in the ER and was prescribed a muscle relaxer and 3 advil at same time.

When I saw my primary doctor, they recommended seeing a chiropractor but I have not made an appointment yet as it makes me a little nervous the thought of someone cracking my back/ manipulating my spine.

I've been better but I still have pain & discomfort this morning my lower back is really bothering me where I may have to take a muscle relaxer later today if it does not feel better.

Thanks ;)

Hope you had an MRI or something before you let a chiro touch your back . If there isn't any damage to your spine I think their gr8 . I used to go to my wifes nephew but wouldn't let him get near my fusion .. Becareful .. ask for an xray for something first ,,

Good Luck

I'm seriously considering it now. I've had lower back pain for years. It's been just a nuisance but back in Noveraber I got diagnosed with a bulging disc via MRI at L5 S1. Sciatica set in, the whole nine yarRAB. Thankfully, that pain has subsided but now over the weekend I'm shooting hoops, and I feel like I get stabbed Monica Seles style and I double over in pain.

I'm getting sick of feeling old at 34 and need some relief.

oh be soo careful!! the chiro. injured me i've been in bed for almost 7 months because of him !! he was at a very well knowen place and was a very nice guy ,but nice doesn't get me out of this darn bed or off the meRAB i now need ... i'm also 34 and i have 4 kiRAB and a grandbaby to take care of and i'm stuck in this pain i did not have before the chiro. it took him 1 adjustment to do this to me! be soo careful when anyone wants to manipulate your spine!!
good luck hope you get some relief..

Wow ladybuggy ~ Your comments just about say it all...or at least how most of us on this board feel!! (about chiropractors)

Hmmm....this thread has me thinking HARD.
I am at the end of my rope with my chronic sciatic pain (had my L5 disc rupture 2x and now have serious nerve damange as a result). MRI shows no compression, but a little scar tissues. MRI also shows disc is buldging again along with L4 now. Buldge is small though.

Anyway, I've been seeing a chiro for about 4 weeks now. My pain has been increasing, but I though that was due to getting off Lyrica and switching meRAB. But I noticed I missed almost a full week adjustments and my sciatica felt more manageable (only 2 pain pills that day). I went for an adjustment and the next day I was back to being miserable.

My chiro is my neigrabroador and SWEARS on his license he can help me? HMMMMMM

Okay....maybe I'll think a little bit harder about that one. I've heard some rumors of occurrences of stroke from neck manipulations as well. whoa doggy

They aren't rumors -- these injuries have happened and are documented. The problem with chiropractors is that some realize their limitations and know when to call it quits and tell the patient to move on to an orthopedic doc, but others do not and can cause more harm than good. Why take a chance unless you have a diagnosis from a spinal specialist, after testing has been done and you have a good idea of what is wrong?
