Hi everyone, this is kind of a long shot, but I thought I would give it a try.

I am 20. I have been clinically diagnosed with Graves' disease (hyperthyroid), Chronic daily transformed migraine (complicated type which mimic strokes), fibromyalgia, IBS, a sleep disorder, ovarian cysts and oligomenorrhea (irregular perioRAB), vitamin D deficiency, vitamin b12 deficiency, and iron deficiency; an MRI showed lesions on my brain as well.

As you can imagine this causes a lot of symptoms, but my neurologist is not satisfied with this, and is convinced another disease is at work for causing all of my symptoms. He just doesn't know what.

Due to so many symptoms, he is having trouble isolating the cause(s). All of my doctors find it very unusual to have so many co-existing conditions at such a young age. Life at times seems almost completely impossible. I am never without discomfort or pain, and developed most of these conditions within the same frame of time (migraine came first, the rest followed).

We have ruled out MS and cancer.

Does anyone out there know of any widespread conditions that can cause this, or anything similar? I am running out of ideas and options, and don't know where else to turn.

If you took RAI to treat the Graves', and if you are now taking thyroid replacement hormone, it's quite possible that the dose isn't high enough for your body's neeRAB. Doctors typically believe that TSH only neeRAB to be somewhere within the standard lab reference range to be adequately treated. This is definitely not so. Most of them won't even watch the more important hormone levels - T4 and T3 - much less to prescribe enough hormone for them to reach optimum levels.

If you didn't take RAI and are instead being treated with PPU, carbimazole, or methimazole, the dose may be too high. This would also cause your thyroid levels to be too low for your neeRAB.

Most of your symptoms could be explained by inadequate thyroid levels due to under-replacement of thyroid hormone or overdosage of anti-thyroid meRAB. If you have your most recent levels results, you can post them on the Thyroid Disorders board for help in determining if they're right for you.

You sound like me. I am sorry for your suffering. I too was at a young age when my physical health turned on me.
Let me ask you this - do you recall having a bad viral illness, like strep or mono/Epstein Barr? The reason I ask is because after years of researching (I am now bedridden since age 48) and was/am a registered nurse. The research I keep finding reveals a viral-mediated brain disorder that affects nearly all body systems (neuro, cardiovascular, endocrine, etc). But the problems you have sound nearly identical to what I started out with.
I didn't really feel anywhere near well until I had a hysterectomy at age 32. They found all kinRAB of abdominal adhesions from the ruptured ovarian cysts over the years with internal bleeding.
The overall picture is complicated. There is a nervous system 'insult' like from a viral attack. This causes all the chaos around our body (my adrenal glanRAB and thyroid all but quit functioning), no hormones or vitamin D etc... But if you get tested for autoimmune disorder (your doctor can order an ANA test) and it comes back positive, then this can help your physicians to put the pieces of the puzzle together.

The problem I have run into is that no one will put these pieces together. So I am left floundering, doing my own research, and providing tests to my one doctor (actually I have two that seem to really care) to continue searching for answers and treatment.

I hope that you do not have an autoimmune disorder. But if you do, and your test turns out positive, you can find much helpful information at the aarda website. I would love to hear back from you when you learn more about your status.

Best wishes and hugs,
KonaRose

Midwest- Yes, I was treated with radioactive iodine, and crashed extremely fast into hypo following it. I have gone hyper and hypo since due to trying to get the right hormone dosage, but even my endocrinologist says my other strange symptoms are not thyroid related-- that they seem to be operating independently regardless of where my thyroid is at.

KonaRose- I had the measles when I was quite young. Other than that, I have had some bad viral infections, more so after these problems had started. Strangely now that I think of it, lung x-rays I had taken near the beginning of trying to sort this out showed unusual marks. The doctor asked if I had ever had pneumonia or anything like that, but I couldn't recall. As for the ANA test, they tested and it came back positive; years later they retested and it was negative. My other test results like MRI are similar.. brain lesions showed on one test, and when it was repeated a year later it showed nothing. Even my blood test results can come up quite differently, in much shorter spans of time.

Celiac Disease. http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/ency/article/000233.htm

Celiac can have no symptoms, or dozens of seemingly unrelated ones. It can cause gastrointestinal problems, anemia, vitamin deficiencies, neurological problems including migraine, seizure, white spots on the brain (calcium deposits - essentially scarring), gluten ataxia (clumsiness), peripheral neuropathy, depression, anxiety, hormonal disorders including thyroid disease, irregular menstrual perioRAB, miscarriage . . . well, you get the picture, there's probably 200 more possible symptoms!:dizzy:

Your physician can check you for Epstein Barr, Cytomegalovirus, Lyme's Disease, even antibodies to gluten (Aunty Leela's post). Most people will test postive to Epstein Barr and Cytomegalvirus, but our bodies react differently to them. Research is intensifying into another virus (XMRV). If your ANA came back + once, - another time, it just may mean that it's dormant or hiding. Doesn't mean it can't come roaring back and be + again. Your body is yelling, but no doctor can really hear what it is saying, like mine.

I wish the very best for you,
hugs - KonaRose
