Opinion: Terminator 2 hasn't aged well

I just think malicious killing monster is exactly what he was until Connor told him not to. I think the only reason he didn't kill anyone in the Bar was because he was far more interested in getting clothed. :D

I can't agree that T3 is better than T2, but is a damn sight better than I expected it to be. It added enough to the terminator mythology to make it a worthwhile sequel, as for T4 just horrible!

It actually saddens me to confess this, given T2 is my favourite action movie ever, but it just hasn't aged well at all.

I watch it now almost as if it is a period film, which Cameron intentionally stylised into kitschy retro monstrosity regarding production design, performances and even action and effects.

T2 is meant to be set in 1995 fgs, but it doesn't even resemble 1991 (the year it was released). From the outfits to the technology featured in the film, it screams 1980s.

In complete contrast, T1 actually looks good, T3 comes across as timeless (as in it can be set anywhere between late 90s and 2000s), and T4 is pretty good at setting up the future world convincingly.

That's exactly what I referring to & that was right after he'd fired off enough bullets to wipe out half of the United States West Coast population!

I think that this is typically the case for many films utilising the latest CGI at the time of filming. Some films have fared better in time than others because they were made with actual mechanical special effects/models (ie. Alien(s)), and/or employ a dark/nighttime theme to mask potential imperfections.

Ray Harryhausen and Stan Winston all the way :)

I disagree. For me T2 remains a great film. It still looks good visually, the story is as good as ever, and the SFX remain superb. I don't really get your point about whether it looks like 1995 or 1991 or whatever. It doesn't have mobile phones or other modern accoutrements, but who cares?

T1, on the other hand, is virtually unwatchable for me because the plot is nothing more than an extended chase seen, and the SFX are terrible. Especially the stop-motion animation that does not look like anything real.

T3 and T4 I've really only watched once, and frankly neither is a great film that justifies repeat viewing.

Well they say that nothing dates a movie like the technology - The Matrix almost gets round this problem by having the computers very old fashioned at the beginning - its fine until the mobile phone shows up.
Matrix is still a great film.

The first three films were basically one long chase scene with the scale escalating as budgets got bigger.
For this reason I didn't like T2 initially as fundamentally it just rehashed the premise of first one. It has grown on me since.
The first looks more dated than the others but it's still the best despite the constraints of a low budget.

I never, ever, understand what the hell people are talking about when they say old films havnt aged well.

Its from 1991! What the hell do you expect? Stupid thing to say.

They did the best with the technology they had available and it is a modern day classic.

I wont use the roll eyes symbol but thats what Im doing right now.

When you put terminators 1 and 2 together and then watch 3, you find that 3 is a paradoy compared to the first 2. Clearly not a classic but enjoyable nethertheless.

The problem with T3 is that it ruined the chronology; one such issue, the age of Sarah Connor.

According to T3, Sarah was 4 years older than she was portrayed in T1 & T2.

How could they get something so simple, so wrong?

Disappointingly, James Cameron would right now probably be considering a Terminator 3 in 3D imax, but he has recently said that he wont be returning to the franchise as others have "pissed in the soup" regarding terminator.

Affirmative :)

It's one movie that really neeRAB to come out on Blu-ray. I think it was supposedly due for release last year (along with the rest of the "saga", although all I would want is Alien & Aliens), but last I heard they're now not due out until December.

T2 will never truly date as it was the first film to show CGI morphing. In that respect it was a landmark film. I don't recall an earlier film using that technique.

The Special Edition version has the dreadful 'smiling scene' where John tries to make the Terminator smile. It's embarrassing awful and I wish Cameron left it out of the SE version! Here it is:

The rest of the film is pretty good although I prefer the theatrical edit, not the special edition edit.

T2 has always high up on my 'over-rated' list. It's got no soul, and is just one set piece explosion after another. The whiny brat doesn't help. I don't want to watch Arnie asa robot babysitter from the future.

I preferred T3.
