the thing is like this: I wanted to tell my boyfriend of 4 months how i feel towards him, so i told him that he's really dear to me, and that I'm very happy for every moment I'm with him. he said this is mutual, and then impulsively I said "I love you". he did nothing for a moment, I think he was shocked (I don't know for sure, it was dark so i couldn't see his face) and then he hugged me close for a few minutes but said nothing, and after that he continued to behave and talk normally as if nothing happened.
now, my question is, was this a mistake? was it better if i waited for him to be the first to say I love you? (he never did. although he once told me i'm exceptionally dear to him)
what do you think his response means? why didn't he say he loves me too?
P.S: I'm 21, he's 25
