opening a club to rescue restaurant food, need advice, anything you can spare on

rescue, preservation, distrib? hi want open a group at my school to save the massive quantities of food that are discarded at restaurants, there are these servings fit for a bull and a half, much too much good food goes nowhere, and there are people that are hungry out there, I need all the information you can spare, anything you know about food rescue, preservation, and distribution. How feasible is this idea....
 
It is a GREAT idea, check with your local food pantries, church soup kitchens, and local health dept.in regards to help donating and distributing food, storage, and distribution.
 
It's a noble idea but this is illegal in the United States; I believe it falls under food purity laws. There is no way to guarantee that the food is safe, how long it was left out, if it was stored properly, etc.

Also, because of the threat of lawsuits, most restaurants do not give away any food that was left uneaten because they'd be opening themselves up for a big hurting in court.
