The coriolis effet. and how on earth is this about biology?
anyways. The coriolis effect, caused by the earth's roatation, causes wind/water in the northern hemisphere to move clockwise, and counter-clockwise in the southern hemi. You can see this in hurricanes, they spin counter-clockwise in the southern hemi. Also, this is the reason that airplanes travel in curved paths, if they planned a straight line to their destination, the Coriolis effect would move the plane away. Hope it helps!
