He was a nice looking young man, and as I listened he seemed intelligent. Then it happened: he spoke of the grandeur of the Grand Canyon, and threw in the part about millions of years.
The silence was then deadly.
He backtracked and claimed of course it was only about 4-6,000, and commented on their stares of disapproval. It was a horribly uncomfortable moment, and I thought, good luck in your next job, nice man.
His name was off the sign next time I drove by.
