when trying to rename or format, and i've used all sorts of names.
It's a cheapo 512 mb card, the card comes up "unknown" but shows its size and format "secure digital". m Because it won't take the name, it won't do anything else. When i tried to transfer a document to it on hotsynch, it returned "no card found.
I'm going to take it home and try it in a camera and a laptop slot. Any ides?

(Brand new TX, by the way)
No it's not locked, because when it was locked it came up "read only," and refused format.

Was the card previously formatted on another device? I've seen some cheap digitial camera's format to 4 bit configuration and it needs to be at least an 8 bit configuration.

If you have a card reader/writer on your PC you might try formatting via the PC and then add a folder called Palm.

If none of the above and it's a new card - return it.

I'll try the pc route. Something is used on it because it shows 491.0 mb free of 491.2 mb.
It may be that it's just junk. I thought "rename" should bring up the mfg name on first hit and this says "unknown".

A 512 card is never a 512 card it's always around 490 when you read it through the Palm - so don't let that throw you.

Unknown is not that uncommon on older cards. It was probably a SanDisk that was rebadged.

Not a good rule but it's a WAG: SanDisk cards are almost always a dark or navy blue and made in Japan or Tawian - the new Ultra Cards are made in China. Panasonics (Japan) are often white Toshiba's (usually Japan or USA) are all over the board.
