helps the book is New Moon? When i was reading New Moon for the third time i always realized that on one of the pages there were three stars at the top. I was wondering why.
 
I haven't read the book, but usually asterisks denote a section break. It's not the end of the chapter, just a pause in the story. And they probably just happened to be at a page break, also. So it appears that they are randomly at the beginning of a page, but in actuality their placement was just happenstance.
 
Its just the break. So its like starting a new paragraph but since it wouldn't show on the swap of pages they put three stars.

For example say the author was talking about apples then they didn't want to start a new chapter but talk about pears they could put three *** there. :)
