That was very offensive and shows he has bought into the trite categorizing of Americans into little boxes. Jesus was the ultimate left wing liberal, and any niceness is liberal.
I do find that funny that evangelical liberals are so rare. I have a bumper sticker that says "Jesus Was A Bleeding Heart Liberal" which I always felt described the situation pretty accurately. Billy Graham was a registered democrat.
