on the htc hero with google.?

when your going to text can you turn the phone so its long? or do you have to text with it just the way it is. i have two choices. one the samsung moment or the htc hero. the hero is cuter and has a better camera. but the smamsung moment has a key board too. and it has flash but its not very attractive. oh and please help with both questions. :) thankss.
