Hi,
2 years ago, a hospital detoxed me from opiates using suboxone. At the time I was afraid to take it because it was new. After putting 2 mg under my tongue, my w/d symptoms that were just beginning, just went away and I felt calm.

I thought that I would be taking them for a week, but I began to see a well-known addictionolost (I see him once ever 3 months for monitoring) and surprisingly he has kept me on it. I thought he would wean me off soon after I started it. Since i was depressed he felt it would be better for me to stay on it due to a higher chance of relapse.

I take 10mg/day and I haven't craved or had any kind of opiate for 2+ years. Drinking seemed to be something I don't necessarily care to do. So, I've chosen to remain on suboxone maintenance as long as my Dr. approves. It could be for the rest of my life and I have no problem with this. I feel good, and I can look at a prescription bottle of vicodin and not want to steal it and take 3 ASAP.

I don't understand why people want to get off something if it helps them so much whether it is an addictive substance or not. And if you're going to keep on taking it, why worry about withdrawal?

I do still have some questions about pain & suboxone though. It competes with the neurotransmitters so that some things that take care of painful procedures work (like demorol) may not because of suboxone blocking activity. So, I'm getting ready to have some urology tests that will HURT...how do i ever know what medications will be effective in blocking the pain. I'm still amazed at how many Drs. still don't even know what suboxone is!
