On Photoshop how do i make everything but the picture black?

If I'm thinking of this the right way, this is what you'll need to do:

First, use the Magnetic Lasso tool. The Magnetic Lasso is found by clicking and holding over the Lasso tool. If you can't find it, just press "L" and it will select the tool. Than, click and hold over the selected tool. A little drop down box will show up with 3 different Lassos. Pick the last one.

With the Magnetic Lasso tool, go around all the white areas and be sure to end at the same place you started with the lasso tool. Once you are done and have ended where you started, your selection should be blinking or look like it's blinking in some way. From here you can than click the Move tool (the very top tool) and click the selection you made with your lasso. Once you clicked it, press Delete or Backspace. It's one of the two. If one doesn't work, press the other one. If one does something else, just press Undo. (Or CTRL+ALT+Z).

There are probably other ways of doing this but that is just one way. That's your basic cropping method as well. You can do a lot with the Lasso tool so if you practice with it on the little things, you will be better with using it on the bigger projects. I hope this helps!

If the picture has a white background then use the magic wand tool to delete it, then create another layer and use the paint bucket tool to paint the whole thing black.

PS. you may need to change the tolerance at the top of the screen for the magic wand tool too work properly.
