the bike 'pops'.? It feels like it skips the chain, but it doesn't. Its like the pedals slip, then pop, slip, pop, really quick. I replaced the 'bottom bracket' but that didnt do it. Any guesses?

It's a Kona Blast from... around 2002
nope. it fails on even a slight grade. something is wrong.

Really hard to say but if I must then it would be my guess only, that you might need to remove your cassette and check your wheel hub- are all the teeth intact. How about the teeth on your cassette are they all there? How about your crank, are the teeth worn on your chain rings or cassette? Depending on how much you have ridden this bike it is a 2002 and in 6 years of ridding it may be time to overhaul the drivetrain.

You might need new crank bearings, your crank might be bent, or it could be time for a new derailleur. Maybe

go up the gears in 'stages' and make sure you don't apply too much pressure on the pedals at once.
