On my dodge car key? Can I cut it in half? will it still send a signal?

I want to cut my key in half but I want the signal to still emit from the key . Is this possible. I want to piggy back it to another key . I put in a different ignition switch, and want to save money, rather than installing a new steering column when my column is perfectly good. can you help?
