On Facebook, can I delete someone just from the news feed?

I don't necessarily want to delete them as a friend, I just want their annoying-every-10-minutes-status updates to quit hogging my news feed. I swear, what is up with people telling the world that they are going to CVS, or they just finished laundry, or they are bored. IRRITATING.
