On LC's question, what use is learning to a pauper:
What use books, knowledge, ways to see the world,
To learn to deal with it, its laws and men,
What use to know protection and defense,
And poetry, why flags are rolled and then unfurled?
What use is it to read and write and see
The various means to help our fellow men,
To feed our children, love our friends and be
The best and use our gifts the rightest way we can?
We carry empty baskets in our heads
To fill with what’s needed as we tread
For we are hungry beings, we need bread
And work and sweat and at the end of day a bed.
For once we stop this learning sweat, we age
And lose the script and role meant for this extant stage.
