"on behalf of" vs "in the name of" in law texts?

I encountered a sentence in a law text. Now I wonder what is the exact difference between "on behalf of" and "in the name of" in this sentence.
"... on instructions and on behalf, but not in the name, of a principal."

on the behalf of----means ur speeaking for someone like a witness
EX On the behalf of John........

in the name of------means (very hard to explain so it might be wrong) speaking for someone like telling the entire story
