On Aciphex for 10 days...still getting heartburn? Please help!

Has it taken anyone longer for this med to work? I'm scared it isn't going to work for me. I've went through almost all the PPIs....I only have Prevacid to try, and then what? Prilosec and Nexium worked for years, then they became ineffective. I tried Protonix for 2 months and still had bad heartburn. I just want one of these meRAB to work for me. I take Zantac on top of it as well as rolaiRAB. Any suggestions? Thanks!

I'm having the same difficulty finding a PPI to work. Try to supplement with Gaviscon for a while.

I am sorry that you are suffering - I had to be on Prevacid and Carafate for almost 6 weeks before I felt some relief from my constant burning heartburn. I have been on that regiment for (3) months now and my heartburn has broken through and is back with a vengence.

Before I try another PPI I am having an endoscopy done 9/19 to try and figure out if there is something inside of me causing this.

Have you had any testing done?

My personal opinion...none of the PPIs are going to cure your heartburn. If you're expecting that, then you need to lower your expectations. They can help to make it more bearable, but that's it.

If you want to cure your heartburn, you need to find the cause. Maybe it's diet. Maybe weight/exercise. Maybe you have the valve issue. H-Pylori. Whatever. You have to find it and treat that, which is hard because there are so many possibilities.

I think too many people with GERD are looking for the magic pill cure. It does not exist.
 
Hi Vanessa! Thanks for the reply! I guess I will continue on with it to see if it gets better. I going to the gastroenterologist on the 16th and will hopefully have some testing done. I've battled heartburn since I was 16 (I'm not 27) and have always had success with Prilosec and Nexium. Back in February the Prilosec wasn't working so well anymore so I switched to Nexium....gave it 10 days and it wasn't working. I probably should have given it more time though. Then I was put on protonix. It took a month before I found any relief and I still had heartburn everyday. Now I'm on Aciphex. The only other one to try is Prevacid. I'm just afraid that I'll go through all of these with no relief anymore. I take Zantac everyday as well. I guess we'll see what happens. I hope you find out what's wrong with you. Keep me posted about your endoscopy:) Good luck!
