My husband and I broke up about 8 years ago and my daughter lived with him for a year or two. I continued to associate with a couple of his nieces who were close to my age, because we were friends.
About three years after the breakup, me and one of his nieces met the guy I am currently dating ... and his brother, whom my ex's niece promptly got into a relationship with and married a few months later. They did eventually get divorced, but not before having a child.
I've been with my boyfriend now for 6 years and it's kinda bothered me a little that I am dating my daughter's cousin's son's uncle. I know it's not really incest because we are only related by descendants, but it's still weird trying to explain it to people.
Is this really just not weird at all or stranger then I realize?
Usually the only people I explain it to are extended members of my boyfriend's family, who usually all react the same way, initial shock and then a kind of gradual understanding.
At least to my face anyway.
