...type of shifting? is what i mean by other shifters are paddle shifter ir indexed shifters.

i have an older raod bike and i am getting really sick of bending down to shift. and i was wondering if i can change the shifters to either paddle shifters or indexed shifter. do i have to change the derailers to newer derailers to do that? also what about bar end shifting?
