on a ford 429 1971 model engine do i have to replace the intake and carb at same time ?

My engine is a 429 4-barrel engine. It came out of a 1971 thunderbird. it has an autolite carb and the original cast iron 4-barrel intake. I plan to use this engine as a street performer engine should I use some or any of the factory induction system? do i have to replace the carb with the intake or just us a adaptor plate of some kind?
