old yamaha dirt bike wont start?

i have an old yamaha 2 stroke dirtbike that wont start, i know nothing about the bike other than i changed the throttle cable (very poorly), cleaned the carburator, cleaned the gas tank and changed the spark plug and still wont start, any suggestions on what the problem might be? PS its a small one like for a little kid and the year im thinkin is late 80s to early 90s not sure exactly
