Old Singer Sewing machine model 248 how do I thread the bobbing?

I just got an old Singer 248 from a garage sale but its a little older then what i am use to I cant seem to get the bobbin to catch and pull up though the needle plate. I'm just not familier with this bobbin type and feel like I am missing a step some were. How ever there Im not sure if this machine actually works. ( moter and geares all seen to function fine) I did finally find some one on line that had a picture of the bobbin I have and he had some really grate tune up tips. but he did not show me how to thread it.
