Old man living with my ancestors in 1870 census?

Hello, I have been looking into some census records of my ancestors and found something weird. There was a 100 year old man listed as living with the family. He had a completely different surname (which made sense, seeing as slaves typically took the last names of their masters after emancipation). But I don't know what his relation was to the head of the household. The census was taken in 1870.

For those of you who have ancestry.com accounts, here's a link : http://search.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/sse.dll?db=1870usfedcen&indiv=try&h=40399353
