I have a smoking 1982 XL500R. I thought I found the problem when I replaced the head gasket. I can stand on the kick starter and it will not turn over without a bouce so I feel compression is good. I looked at the valve heads and saw no signs of oil sliding by.. My question is, can it be just the $2 valve stem seals or more likly the valve guides are worn.
