I have found this old cheque. It is written out by Senator George Vickers and is payable to William H. Ford. I looked it up and it seems at that time, THE William H. Ford would have only been 6 years old. So I'm assuming its his dad.. but I don't know. Its said that his dad was a farmer and didn't live close to Maryland. The check is to the Kent National bank of Chester town and is for $25.50 and dated March 28th, 1868, a few weeks after he was elected as senator.
The cheque is handwritten in calligraphy pen on ordinary lined paper and has a 2 cent American stamp (pink and maroon in colour) that has George Washington on it.
On the back it has William H ford's signature, and a couple of other signatures I can't read, and a Kent National Bank ink stamp.
Any idea on William H ford? Or any idea on what this may be worth?
Its not in terrible condition for a 140+ year old piece of paper, though it does have a cross tear in the middle, I think they pierced all of the checks on something to keep them stacked and organized.
I appreciate any help
