Oklahoma law about VBACS?

I don't know if any of you are from Oklahoma but I delivered at OU Medical center and was told that it is a law that you can't have a VBAC due to malpractice law suits...do you think there would be any way of getting around this? I feel like this should be illigal NOT to let me do a VBAC.
I don't know why they would lie to me, but it seems ridiculous. It is screwed up if they are just trying to scare me out of one, I should be able to chose. I'm worried about getting a midwife because if something happens can they preform a c-section?
 
It may be hospital policy but they can't make it a law, it's your body and you can birth your baby however you want - but the O.B. doesn't have to agree to deliver you that way (unfortunately). Have you looked into a midwife? You would certainly have better luck with a birth center or homebirth. Honestly I think they were lying to you though.

EDIT: First of all, the likelihood a c-section will be necessary is much smaller with a midwife because they are trained for complications to normal vaginal childbirth - OB's just want to cut you open at the first glimmer of a problem even when there are better less invasive solutions.

But the reality is that most reasons c-sections happen are not true emergencies and can be anticipated ahead of time. A good midwife knows what she can't handle and what complications make it a good idea for you to go with an OB instead, or during labor will know at what point you may need to transfer to the hospital. Everything does not have to go perfectly with a midwife, they are trained for complications too and will have a plan in place if you need to transfer for a c-section in labor. Most "emergency" c-sections don't happen right then and there, they prep you, prep the OR and get to it about 30 minutes to an hour after its necessity is determined. Which if you live close is plenty of time to get to a hospital. The midwife can't perform the c-section but she'll know if you need one and take the appropriate action.
 
That is so f u c ked up. How about just having the mother sign a waiver against a lawsuit. The insurance companies run this country...and we allow it.

I haven't heard of this so I have no advice. I just want to encourage you to find a way to do what is right for you. I had a VBAC 16 years ago. She's beautiful.
 
well i am from oklahoma city and I never heard that law at all. That is ridiclous. If you have to get a lawyer and talk to them about it..It should be your choice if you want VBAC even know its risky but its still your choice.
 
I honestly don't know ... I am from Australia where VBAC is very encouraged. But I would imagine that you can refuse any medical care ... they can't cut you open if you don't give consent...get my drift?
 
I can't speak specifically to OK, but at the hospital I delivered at in Idaho they didn't do VBACs because they didn't staff a surgeon 24 hours a day and they would require a surgeon to be available during a VBAC due to the increased risk over a normal vaginal birth.
