i admit to getting upset with this recent back problem; i have always had chronic back pain; i live with it; had no trouble exercising, walking and golfing until a month and a half ago, when i developed a sharp pain when walking sometimes; now it is getting worse and is interfering with my just doing normal things like grocery shopping; the pain just comes on, lasts a few seconRAB and it is sharp; i did go to a PM&R guy who diagnosed sacroiliac joint inflammation and recommended P.T. I haven't done that yet, thinking I could stretch and exercise my way back to normalcy as I had in the past when i hade back issues. The plain lurabar x-ray looks remarkably good buit i wonder if they have me confused with someone else; 7 years ago my lurabar x-ray says mild degen disc disease at L4-5 and L5-S1; this new film didn't mention disc disease; degen disc disease doesn't get better, does it? anyway, i am trying to figure out what the heck this could be and if maybe i should get a CAT scan of my back; also have a large fibroid uterus which could be putting pressure on nerves but i don't believe it is causing this sharp pain. as you can tell, i am confused; i do have a call into my doc so i will see what he says but i place alot of value in your insights as well.

An X-ray will not show anything but the bony areas of your body. To see whether you have a disc herniation , or anything concerning the soft tissues, you will at least need to have a MRI. And no, DDD doesn't not repair itself! It is degeneration and usually continues to deteriorate.

If you have SI inflammation, it is likely that even moving a certain way could cause a sharp, intermittant pain. There are lots of little ligaments, etc. that attach in that area.
