Okay, I need help with Photoshop please :)?

Okay I have photoshop CS4 and I'm seriously completely new to this 100 percent. I have no idea what anything is and I've tried to read tutorials to see if that helps but it doesnt. I'm trying to make a banner for this story that I have and I put two pictures together but I don't know how to cut it, to blend it, or to make it look more like they are suppsoed to be together. So, If anyone can please help me! Oh, and when I found out how to click the brush tool or whatever, click Y or something, it said my canvas size didn't match the history and I really am lost. Please, someone help me or give me a tutorial of my own. I would greatly appreciate it :)
 
if you are completely new to this, then i shall recommend you to search through google.
BTW, you can use pen tool to cut and mix two pictures. you should know about layers in PS else its difficult to do this process.
 
I recommend use a MUCH simpler tool like Paint.NET, its also FREE

or you could email me the pictures and i could do it, cause I love that stuff :P
 
By blending 2 pictures, do you mean make them both semi transparent so that essentially both are visible? To use photoshop you need to understand how the layers palate works. In the layers palate you will see the layers, (layer 1, layer 2 etc.) Shoot me an email if you like or im, and I can guide you through it.
