If I do buy a 55 gallon fish tank for discus, how should I go about cycling, I mean method, then how should I add them. As you know, I have the 29 gal too. Also, if I want to make it planted how do I do that and what type of bedding? Any other advice is welcome like how to deal with my towns really high pH water, 7.6-7.8?
 
you can get bacteria supplement which puts amonia fighting bacteria straight into your water or you can take some filter media from your established 29 gallon and put it into your new filter or you also can let it sit for about a week or two hope this helps and as for adding fish keep in mind that discus fish should only be kept with their own kind and like warmer temps and quiet environments hope this helps
