OK, so why isn't the public screaming for alternative energy NOW?

The argument of environmental economists is that if you were to include the externalities of oil based energy into the costs, it WOULD already be high enough to be over the hump. Which is almost definitely true since externalities are not internalized much at all.

Thank you.

I was spiraling off into some potentially harmful cognition for a second there.

No one seems to factor in the cost of environmental damage. Our current system will cost us a lot more in the future than it does today.

let's kill off the entire gulf coast and refuse to stop our dependency on oil.

Because the public is too stupid and apathetic to know or care about the consequences of the lifestyles we have chosen

true story

probably one of the few good things Illinois has managed to do in the past 60 years is get a shit ton of nuclear power plants built in this state

I bought BP gas today. Feels good man

If I had the money, I'd buy a hybrid, tear it apart, and build it into a gasoline-electric.

They can continue on it while the general population switches to something else. The downside of that is that it will cost the farmer more to produce.

The primary concept of sustainable agricuture is mimicking natural ecosystems.

Basically you look at what happens in a climate zone if you just leave it alone, the plant community that arrises, than you copy it but with harvestable crops.

So say you're in the plains, your look at the different prairie species, and you grow crops that serve the same ecological functions all together.

Preferably with perennial species so you don't have to plow every year, it totally eliminates most of the work and need for fertilizer and insecticide.
