Then you didn't read ANY of the pages on eBay. Your bid was a binding contract that if you won, you'd pay.
Your seller is/was not required to honor a cancellation request. Your seller will file an Unpaid-Item-Dispute to get some (but not all) fo his money back from eBay. These disputes are taken seriously by eBay and can result in your being kicked off the site.
