im 13 and I got a lot of money for christmas. i found some colorful fish at walmart I think they were betas. I want to buy some. How expensive are they? I already have 2 dogs and 2 birds(my mom pays for their food, supplies and vet care) so my mom will make me buy EVERYTHING for them. How many should I get if they will be in the same house.

is this safe for them?

if so where can I buy the tree?
by expensive I mean how much do they cost a piece, their food, their bowls and any other things they need? Are they salt water or regular?
I am scared to get a saltwater fish cause I may not do it right and kill them

also does Walmart, petco or petsmart ask for Id if you try to buy a fish when your 13?
I remember I tried to buy a bird from this pet store and they made me go get my mom to be sure was allowed. I jjust want to know if I need to bring my mom

1. Betta fish range from $2.50-5.00 depending on where you go and the gender.

2. The "tree" is called Lucky Bamboo. It is absolutely safe for the betta. You can get it at PetCo or PetsMart. However, don't get the bowl. Bettas will need at least a 2.5 gallon tank with a heater.

3. No, they won't ask for ID.=]

4. They are freshwater fish. Use tap water with conditioner for their water.

5. Get only one. Male bettas cannot be kept with any other bettas, regardless of gender. Females can be kept in groups of four or more but you would need at least 10 gallon tank. For a beginner, stick with only one.

6. Get a tank set up that has a hood. This will prevent the betta from jumping out and from other animals from getting in. I recommend the mini bow junior aquarium kit.

Necessary things:
2.5+ tank: $20+
Food:$3
Heater(there's a small, cheap one at Wal mart): $5
Water conditioner: $3
Fish: $2.50-5
Optional bamboo: $4 each

EDIT: They won't need an ID. They were probably just making sure that it was okay with an adult. If a child simply bought it without the consent of a parent and in the event that the parent wouldn't allow it, the bird would have to be returned and cause problems for the pet store. =] They were just making sure. You may want to bring you mom just in case.

It won't kill them to have fresh water, even though they are not a fresh water fish. You cannot put two male betas (the colorful ones) in the same bowl. They will kill each other. They are not expensive, and their food is relatively cheap. Oh, and you don't need an id to buy fish.

no they dont ask for id, bettas arn't that expensive, they are 3-7$ depending on what kind you get, they wouldnt mind salt in their water but they can live without it. Im not sure, you can get a fish bowl kit for about 10 $, they are not fresh water fish so dont worry :D Good luck

First rule with Betta's: BETTA'S CANNOT BE PUT TOGETHER.
If you are looking for a cheap set up that comes with everything you need this is the perfect thing to get: http://www.petco.com/product/10367/Marina-Betta-Kits.aspx

You can probably find that at walmart and if not there is probably something similar at walmart. If you get something like that the only thing you need to buy besides the kit is a betta.
Few tings-
-Feed Once a day.
-Do full water changes once a week
~Clean the rocks
~Rinse out the tank.
~Never use any kind of soap or chemical in a fish tank.

Hope this helped!
