ok i have a problem with the gas pedal on a 2005 f150 5.4 3v?

ok i have a 2005 f150 with the 5.4 3v and the problem that it has is that it has happened twice this month that when im on a stop light and i push the gas pedal it wont do anything like if the engine was off then it works fine and a friend of mine said that it happened to his truck that a time came that it didnt accelerate anymore he said it was a sensor that goes on the throttle body...could that be it..and what is the part called
