oil pressure problem/Honda?

My old 94 Honda looses oil pressure after heating up. Will using 10w-40 oil or 20w help with the pressure. trying to preserve the cam and valves. What other options besides an overhaul? any temporary fixes?
I just spent a grand on a mechanic who left it half baked. I was gonna install an electric pump to compensate the newly installed pump that is not doing its job. New pump put in but it still does not maintain pressure. At first its ok, but then after a few minutes the oil light goes on again. that's why the cam got burnt and had to be replaced in the first place. but then he had to install a new pump.(cuz the light still went on) So, now he turns it over to me and says "sorry but I should have put in a new engine in the first place." I never tried this mech before. I was in a pinch so I followed a recommendation. Not to happy when that oil light still goes on. I'm an amateur mech, so I guess that I'll just install a diff engine in it myself and save the labor cost. I'll hire a couple of techs to assist me, so that I can speed up the job. But what can I do in the meantime? Will thicker oil do? The engine sounds fine. Runs like a top. But I can't go far in ten minutes. Also, should I install a good oil gauge to check the pressure closely? Maybe I should rebuild it myself. ???
