Oil leak has been a consistant problem on my inline 6 recently decided to purchase new valve cover, torque wrench, gasket, everything starting from scratch. I'm curious what might someone suggest to form the best possible seal. i'm currently using a store bought gasket, with a little form-a-gasket for extra seal. some people have suggested just a dry seal? what will make this thing never leak again!

If a valve cover gasket leak, put a little RTV on the around the bottom of the gasket, place it on the head. Put a small bead on the top of the gasket, install the valve cover, torque to specs, and allow to dry. Should be good to go.

if you want to do it right, insist on the rubber gasket, and you dont use sealant on it.now if you have blowby issues, and you really dont care use the black sealant on both sides of the mating surface.youll need to str8ten the valve cover. it will be bent in around the bolt holes. just set it on a flat surface(with a corner so you can rest the hole there without bashing the cover, and using a small hammer form the metal flat or even slightly concave)when you tighten them, use a 1/4 inch ratchet and hold it by the ratchet head not the handle.tighten them just till you feel a little resistance then 1/4 turn more. that should give you long life without ruining the gasket.look it takes no more pressure on the bolts than you could put on with a nut driver.

dont need anything but a gasket sealer would help any type wil do most important is not to over tighten cover not much more than hand tight what you could do a screwdriver type tool some use sealer to hold gasket in place while installing it not to seal it any better

you can use the rubber or cork gasket the trick is not to over tight the bolts or it will damage the cover and gasket causing it to leak.
