Ohio law question? Check stolen and forged?

Im going to try to make this as short as possible. I got a blocked call the other day from a girl that told me a guy me and my bf knew went through our cars a while back, and stole things including a few checks from my bf, and cashed one recently for $300. They arrested the guy, but he lied and said i gave it to him, and we used it do drugs together and i was at his house all day that day. I was home with my child, and luckily my neighbor across the hall was home and seen my car and heard us there all day that day. Thing is it seems that the cops believe the drug addict more than me. My question is, what kind of punishment is this jerk looking at? Are they going to believe him and try to take me down, when i have a witness? And can i get this guy for pain and suffering or something? I have an anxiety disorder, and he blatently lied and i cant sleep or eat or stop crying. Thanks for any advice!
