I'm curious, but is the best FoxKids cartoon Oggy & The Cockroaches a copy of Tom & Jerry, because to me it might be which Oggy unlike Tom is a good-natured blue cat but those 3 mean cockroaches are even bigger jerks than Jerry on giving poor Oggy trouble and in the episode Garden of Horrors, those 3 cockroaches get their just desserts like Jerry and its a pretty hilarious cartoon:D next to Tom & Jerry.

I find it more in the spirit of inspiration. While "chase" cartoons are a fairly common sartoon staple, Tom & Jerry got it's notoriety for its high levels of violence and largely mute dialogue. In these respects, O&TC borrows those elements. Except in O&TC, speech is extremely rare.

However, I do think O&TC does pretty well to establish itself it's own identity. Oggy is almost always the victim of the sadistic pranks of the cockroaches. Early on in the series, the cockroaches are mostly of the "winning" end. Luckily, the show starts to even out the playing field, making the cockroaches somewhat more sympathetic (while still sadistic) as well as evening out the playing field, allowing Oggy to one-up them. Also, the inclusion of Jake, the somewhat militaristic next door neighbor who doesn't hesitate to try and kill the cockroaches, adds a certain uniqueness to the proceedings.

The art style is also much more inspired. It looks very little like Hanna & Barberra's work. It is vaguely remeniscent of Spumco's in that cels and body movements are extremely detailed and fluid along with the wide variely of body distortions. This does nothing but benefit the amount of action that takes place in this cartoon. The backgounds are almost surrealistic, especially in the house.

While at it's core there is a mark of T&J influence, O&TC manages to be more than just a cookie-cutter clone.

Indeed it does. I feel that we even see quite a bit of character development as well.

I really see the roaches a lot more sadistic than Jerry. In "Happy Birthday Oggy", we see Oggy trying to commit suicide (and this was in a kid's show, by the way) and I recall seeing the roaches trying to assist him. Now that's sadistic. Far far more dark and nasty than T&J. But they pull it off to such a hillarious degree.
