Hello! A close friend of mine has invited me to his farm to potter about on his land in his Land Rover. He has a fair bit of land that would be classed 'off road'- nothing extreme, but just woodland trails with a few earthern mounds and narrow sections.

For a while now I have hankered after an off-road motorcycle to take around his land. I've only ever ridden 50cc mopeds before but I'd still like to get my hands on a small-engined off road machine. A friend of mine has said that for limited off road use a 50-125cc bike would be ample as I don't want some 500cc beast, but I am having truoble finding one in my budget as most of the dedicated off road bikes seem to be a lot of money. Why is this, and what would be the cheapest option? I don't mind if it's tatty as long as it goes, and of course I'd like a 'full size' bike- a lot of the smaller models I've seen seem to have been built for dwarves!

Any UK relevant advice welcome. Thanks.

For a start, any roadworthy bike in the 125cc class attracts a premium, as they can be ridden on a CBT licence.
You are better off getting a 175 or 200cc purely offroad bike. There are plenty on Ebay, but be careful - many are stolen & stripped down road bikes. It's safest to buy a bike with a V5 even if you don't intent to use it on road - at least you'll have some legal proof of it's origins.
